Alexander Gelber Named Acting Chief Economist at U.S. Treasury

U.S. Treasury official Alexander Gelber has been named acting chief economist, according to a department spokeswoman.

Gelber, who has been deputy assistant secretary for economic policy, becomes the acting assistant secretary, Treasury spokeswoman Sabrina Siddiqui said.

Gelber is on temporary leave from his positions as assistant professor in the Business Economics and Public Policy Department at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and as faculty research fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research.

Janice Eberly, who has been assistant secretary for economic policy, or chief economist, leaves the department today to return to her faculty job at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
