Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. (ST) said today that it will appeal a decision requiring it to make Barclays Premier League matches over the next three seasons available to subscribers of other pay-television providers.
“We are gravely disappointed,” Allen Lew, chief executive officer of group digital life, said in a statement today, referring to the decision by Singapore’s Media Development Authority, or MDA. “We fully intend to appeal this decision and seek legal recourse if necessary.”
Singapore revised its media-market code in 2011 to enable the mandatory cross carriage of exclusive content in the pay- television market. The MDA said today that SingTel’s agreement with Football Association Premier League Ltd. for the matches was covered by the rules, and the content would have to be made available to StarHub Ltd. (STH), a cable operator.
