Pakistan Suicide Blast Kills 8 Near Political Rally in Peshawar

A bomb blast next to a political rally for the Awami National Party in Pakistan’s northwestern city of Peshawar today killed eight people and injured 40, according to one of the party’s senior leaders, Mian Iftikhar Hussain.

The blast was a suicide attack, according to the city’s police chief, Liaquat Ali, whose comments to reporters at the site were carried on the Geo television channel along with Hussain’s. Pakistan is scheduled to hold parliamentary elections May 11.
