Yale, Top-Seeded Quinnipiac Advance to College Ice Hockey Final

Yale University and top-seeded Quinnipiac University advanced to the final of the national men’s college ice hockey tournament tomorrow.

Yale defeated third-seeded Massachusetts-Lowell 3-2 on Andrew Miller’s overtime goal in its first National Collegiate Athletic Association semifinal game in 61 years. Quinnipiac beat St. Cloud State 4-1 in the second playoff game.

Mitch Witek and Antoine Laganiere scored goals in the first period to give Yale a 2-0 advantage at Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh. UMass-Lowell rallied in the second period, with Riley Wetmore and Joseph Pendenza scoring 14 seconds apart to tie the game.

Quinnipiac went up 3-0 on first-period goals by Jordan Samuels-Thomas, Ben Arnt and Jeremy Langlois. Joey Benik scored for St. Cloud State early in the second period before Kellen Jones added Quinnipiac’s final score.
