Switzerland Ties Cyprus 0-0 in World Cup Soccer Qualifying Match

Switzerland drew 0-0 with Cyprus to increase its lead in its European qualifying group for soccer’s 2014 World Cup.

The result in Nocosia, Cyprus, gives Switzerland 11 points, two more than Iceland and Albania after five of 10 matches in Group E. Cyprus moved out of last in the six-team group with four points, one more than Slovenia.

The nine European group winners qualify for the World Cup in Brazil, with the best eight runners-up going into a playoff for the remaining four spots.

Switzerland hosts Cyprus in the next round of qualifiers on June 7.
