Manchester City will make a “last-ditch” bid to sign Barcelona’s David Villa as a replacement for AC Milan-bound Mario Balotelli, the Daily Mirror reported.

City asked about the 31-year-old striker’s availability with a view to rushing through a 15 million-pound ($23.6 million) trade before tomorrow’s transfer deadline, the Mirror said.

Arsenal is also hoping to sign Villa before the deadline, the Daily Mail reported.

Crouch Return?

Queens Park Rangers coach Harry Redknapp wants to bring in Peter Crouch from Stoke in exchange for Jamie Mackie, the Daily Mirror reported.

Crouch may be interested in a second stint at QPR a decade after his first one, the Mirror said.

Butland Stays

Goalkeeper Jack Butland rejected a move to Chelsea after Birmingham agreed to trade him to the European champion for 3 million pounds, the Daily Mail reported.

Birmingham is “desperate” to raise money to stay afloat financially, the Mail said.

Norwich Pair

Norwich is trying to sign Celtic striker Gary Hooper and Leeds forward Luciano Becchio, the Sun reported.

The Canaries plan to increase their latest 5 million-pound offer for Hooper and may trade Steve Morison to Leeds in return for Becchio, the Sun said.
