Mitsubishi May Build Solar Plant in Japan With Chubu Electric

Mitsubishi Corp. (8058), Japan’s largest trading house by market value, may build a solar power station with Chubu Electric Power Co. (9502) in central Japan.

Mitsubishi and C-Tech Corp., a clean energy and telecommunications unit of Chubu Electric, are considering building a solar plant in Aichi prefecture, Takashi Shiwaku, a Mitsubishi spokesman said by phone today. Aichi is home to Toyota Motor Corp.’s head office in Toyota city.

The Nikkei newspaper reported Jan. 12 the companies will build a 77 megawatt station in Aichi at a total cost of more than 20 billion yen ($223 million). The paper did not say where it got the information. Shiwaku said the capacity and the location of the plant haven’t been decided.
