Core Petroleum Said to Hire 2 Oil Carriers Owned by DHT Holdings

Core Petroleum LLC hired two very large crude carriers owned by DHT Holdings Inc. (DHT) for up to 12 months, Optima Shipbrokers said.

The DHT Chris was hired for $20,000 daily, Athens-based shipbroker Optima said in an e-mail today. It didn’t report a rate for DHT Ann.

DHT said Dec. 11 that Overseas Shipholding Group Inc. (OSGIQ), a tanker operator that filed for bankruptcy protection in November, was ending its charters of the two VLCCs before they expired and would redeliver them in the next few weeks. DHT Holdings owns a fleet of nine tankers, according to its website. VLCCs are the largest tankers, each able to carry two million barrels of crude.

Jersey, Channel Islands headquartered DHT Holdings can’t comment on its day-to-day business dealings, Chief Executive Officer Svein Moxnes Harfjeld said by phone from Olso today.

A phone call to Jersey City, New Jersey-based Core Petroleum outside of office hours wasn’t answered.

The rate to hire a VLCC for 12 months averaged $21,250 daily in December, according to data from Clarkson Plc (CKN), the world’s largest shipbroker.
