Mitsui Mining & Smelting Co. (5706), Japan’s biggest refined zinc producer, is planning to shut its Kamioka smelter in central Japan for 30 days of maintenance starting from August, a company executive said.
“There will be no impact on output and sales,” Satoshi Tsunoda, deputy general manager of the company’s zinc division, said today. The smelter in Gifu prefecture has an annual capacity of 67,000 metric tons.
The Tokyo-based company also plans to close its Hachinohe smelter with an annual capacity of 112,000 tons in Aomori prefecture, northern Japan, for 40-day maintenance from March 2014, he said.
Mitsui Mining has no maintenance plan this year for its Hikoshima zinc smelter with annual capacity of 74,000 tons in Yamaguchi prefecture, west of Tokyo.
