Aqua America Inc. (WTR), the second-biggest U.S. water utility by market value, said units in Texas and Illinois acquired three water companies and a wastewater system to raise to 18 its purchases in 2012.

The acquisitions included Wingert Water Systems Inc. in Comal County and Royal Oaks Water System Inc. in Kerr County, Texas, and the Ilinois wastewater assets of Tri Star Estates in Bourbonnais and water assets of the Moecherville Water District in Kane County for about $3.8 million total, the Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania-based company said in a statement.
