Reid Spokesman Corrects Statement; No Counteroffer Made

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s spokesman Adam Jentleson said Reid hasn’t made a formal counteroffer to Republicans on the U.S. budget.

“We’re still left with a proposal they’ve given us that protects the wealthy and not the middle class,” Reid told reporters as he left a Democratic caucus today. “I am not going to agree to that.”

Then, asked whether he would make a counteroffer, Reid, a Nevada Democrat, said, “I just did.”

Jentleson said Reid wasn’t referring to a formal offer to Republicans. Instead, Jentleson said the majority leader was referring to his own statement seconds earlier that Democrats wouldn’t accept a plan that protected the wealthy and not the middle class.
