Chile Names Justice Minister After Scandal Forces Resignation

Chilean President Sebastian Pinera appointed Patricia Perez as justice minister after Teodoro Ribera resigned from the post following an education scandal, the government press office said in a statement late yesterday.

Perez is a lawyer who previously was deputy justice minister, according to the statement posted on the government website.

Ribera is accused of having ties to a former director of the university accreditation committee who is under investigation for bribery. Ribera denies any wrongdoing.
