India’s GMR Group Seeks 100,000 Tons of Imported Steam Coal

GMR Energy Ltd., unit of India’s GMR Infrastructure Ltd. (GMRI), is seeking to buy 100,000 metric tons of imported steam coal for two of its power plants.

The Indian electricity producer wants the fuel for a 1,400- megawatt power project owned by its subsidiary Kamalanga Energy Ltd. in the eastern Orissa state and a 600-megawatt site operated by Emco Energy Ltd. in Maharashtra, western India, according to a document on its website. Each will need 50,000 tons of coal for delivery in January and February, GMR said.

The coal must have a gross calorific value of 4,800 kilocalories a kilogram with total moisture and ash content of 25 percent each and sulfur content not more than 0.9 percent, according to the document.

Suppliers will have to import the fuel from Indonesia, South Africa, Australia or the U.S., to the eastern Indian ports of Kakinada and Paradip, the company said. Bids have to be submitted by Dec. 26.
