DuPont Acquired Verdezyne Sugar-to-Fuels Enzyme Technology

DuPont Co., the largest U.S. chemical maker by market value, bought from Verdezyne Inc. the rights for an enzyme technology that’s used to convert sugar into fuel and chemicals.

The patented xylose isomerase technology is used to metabolize pentose sugar in biomass, closely held Verdezyne, based in Carlsbad, California, said today in a statement. Terms of the purchase weren’t disclosed.
