China Raids Gambling Dens, Destroying Machines, Xinhua Reports

Chinese police seized more than 210,000 gambling machines nationwide in a crackdown on their production and on betting venues, the official Xinhua News Agency said, citing the Ministry of Public Security.

China has closed more than 30,000 gambling dens, broke up more than 10,000 criminal gangs that made the machines or ran casinos, detained more than 5,700 suspects and confiscated about 4.36 billion yuan ($697 million) of “illicit funds.” The ministry said it will continue its crackdown on gambling, including online casinos, Xinhua said.
