Brazil’s Corinthians Beat Al-Ahly in Club World Cup Semifinals
Brazilian club Corinthians defeated Egypt’s Al-Ahly 1-0 in the semifinals of soccer’s Club World Cup in Japan.
Paolo Guerrero scored in the 30th minute in Toyota to send Corinthians to the Dec. 16 final against European titleholder Chelsea or Mexican club Monterrey. The South American champion won the initial Club World Cup in 2000.
Earlier today, Sanfrecce Hiroshima of Japan beat Asian champion Ulsan Hyundai of South Korea 3-2 in the fifth-place match. Hisato Sato scored two goals for the Japanese J-League winner and Satoru Yamagishi added one.
Chelsea is aiming to give Europe a sixth straight title at the annual competition, which is contested by the champions of each continent’s soccer federation.
