NII Won’t Get Brazil’s Approval to Buy Unicel, Veja Reports

NII Holdings Inc. (NIHD), which sells wireless service under the Nextel brand name in Latin America, won’t get approval from Brazil regulator Anatel to take over Unicel do Brasil Telecomunicacoes Ltda, Veja magazine reported, without saying where it got the information.

NII filed a request on Oct. 29 to buy Unicel, according to a filling published on Anatel’s website.

The column item contained no comment from NII. Claudia Restrepo, an NII spokeswoman, didn’t respond to a telephone call and an e-mail today from Bloomberg News outside of regular business hours.
