Manchester City Out of Champions League; Arsenal, Madrid Advance

Manchester City was eliminated from soccer’s Champions League after a 1-1 tie with Real Madrid, which joined Arsenal in advancing to the round of 16.

City’s home draw means it can’t finish as one of the top two teams from Group D that move into the knockout stage. Real qualified from the group with Dortmund, which beat Ajax 4-1.

Arsenal defeated Montpellier 2-0 to join Schalke, a 1-0 winner over Olympiacos, in progressing from Group B. Paris Saint-Germain beat Dynamo Kiev 2-0 to advance from Group A and AC Milan moved on from Group C after a 3-1 win over Anderlecht.

Porto beat Dinamo Zagreb 3-0 in Group A and Malaga drew 2-2 at Zenit St. Petersburg in Group C. Both Porto and Malaga had already qualified for the knockout stages or Europe’s elite club competition.
