Harper Says Canadians Want Careful Examination of Bids

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said his government welcomes foreign investment and also has an obligation to the public to give close scrutiny to foreign takeover bids for domestic companies.

“We welcome foreign investment,” Harper said in response to an opposition lawmaker’s question in the House of Commons today in Ottawa. “Canadians expect us to examine these investments carefully.”
