Ligety had a time of 2 minutes, 36.02 seconds with Moelgg’s combined two-run time 2.75 seconds slower. Austria’s Marcel Hirscher, defending overall and giant slalom title holder, was third.
France’s Thomas Fanara, fastest on the first run, was fourth.
The 28-year-old Ligety now has 12 World Cup victories, all in giant slalom. That includes a win in Soelden last season.
