Irish Cattle Slaughter Slides 17% in September From Year Earlier

Irish cattle slaughter fell to 126,100 head in September, 17 percent less than in the same month a year earlier, the Central Statistics Office said.

About 1.06 million cattle were slaughtered in Ireland in the first nine months of the year, 13 percent less than in 2011, the agency said today in a report on its website. Pig slaughter in September totaled 231,400 head, down 10 percent from a year earlier, while processing of sheep increased 7.4 percent to 260,800 head.
