Former MVP Nowitzki Out at Least Six Weeks After Knee Surgery

Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki, a former league most valuable player and an 11-time All-Star, will be out at least six weeks after undergoing surgery on his right knee, the National Basketball Association team said in a statement.

Nowitzki, 34, has averaged 22.9 points and 6.8 rebounds during his 14-year career. He led Dallas to the title after the 2010-11 season and won the MVP in 2007.

The Mavericks begin the season Oct. 30 in Los Angeles against the Lakers.
