Ethiopian Tsegaye Kebede Wins Chicago Marathon in Course Record
Tsegaye Kebede set a course record while leading a 1-2-3 Ethiopian men’s finish at the Chicago Marathon, in which African runners took the top eight places.
Kebede finished in Grant Park in 2 hours, 4 minutes, 38 seconds, breaking the record of 2:05:37 set last year by Kenya’s Moses Mosop.
Feyisa Lilesa was second in 2:04.52 and Tilahun Regassa was third in 2:05.27. Kenyans placed fourth through seventh, Ethiopia’s Dadi Yami was eighth and American Dathan Ritzenhein was ninth.
In the women’s race, Atsede Baysa of Ethiopia defeated Kenya’s Rita Jeptoo by about a step. Baysa’s winning time was 2:22.03.
