Ministry Says Ukraine’s Winter Grain Sowing Increased by 8.5%

Ukraine’s winter grain sowing advanced 8.5 percent to 5.1 million hectares (12.6 million acres) by today, the Agriculture Ministry said.

Farmers had sown 4.7 million hectares by this time last year, the Kiev-based ministry said in e-mailed statement today. Winter wheat accounted for 4.6 million hectares, compared with 4.3 million hectares a year earlier, the ministry said. It said 8.2 million hectares will be sown with winter grains this year for the 2013 harvest, the same as a year ago.
