Merck KGaA Has Loss on Greek Bonds That Paid for Drugs, FTD Says
Greek bonds that Merck KGaA (MRK) received in lieu of payment for drugs delivered to local hospitals lost almost two-thirds of their value, Financial Times Deutschland reported, citing a Merck spokesman. *Merck received bonds worth 55.6 million euros ($72 million) *Bonds covered outstanding bills of 60 million euros incurred between 2007 and 2009 *Greece repaid 12.4 million euros worth of bonds *Merck sold the rest for 8.1 million euros *Bayer AG (BAYN), Fresenius SE and Biotest AG (BIO) also took losses on Greek bonds.
