Tiernan-Locke Wins Tour of Britain, First Home Champ Since 1993

Jonathan Tiernan-Locke won the Tour of Britain, becoming the first home cyclist to clinch the title in 19 years.

Mark Cavendish of Britain won today’s eighth and final stage over 91.2 miles in a sprint finish in Guildford, south of London. It was his third stage victory in this year’s race.

Tiernan-Locke took an 18-second lead into today’s stage and finished in the main group of riders.

The last British winner of the race was Chris Lillywhite in 1993.
