Toray Industries Wins Filter Orders for UAE Desalination Plants

Toray Industries Inc. (3402), the largest producer of carbon fiber to make fuel-efficient vehicles, announced orders to supply reverse osmosis membranes for two seawater desalination plants in the United Arab Emirates.

The filters for plants at Al Zawra near Dubai and at Ghalilah on the Persian Gulf will together produce 113,000 cubic meters of water per day on completion, which is expected next year, the Tokyo-based company that’s also a water treatment business leader said in a statement. No terms were given.

With the orders, Toray will be supplying membranes to desalination plants in the UAE for a total capacity of 480,000 cubic meters of water a day, it said last week. Toray said the global RO membrane market, fueled by water shortages and the need for drinking water supplies, is expected to grow “steadily” in regions including North America, Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and China.
