Suncor Oil-Sands Production, Syncrude Output Rise in August

Suncor Energy Inc. (SU)’s oil-sands production increased 6.3 percent to 373,000 barrels a day in August from a month earlier.

Last month’s output, which includes upgraded sweet and sour synthetic crude oil and diesel and non-upgraded bitumen, was up from 351,000 in July, Calgary-based Suncor said on its website. The year-to-date average is 321,000.

Suncor was scheduled to perform maintenance on its No. 2 upgrader in Alberta beginning at the end of the third quarter and lasting into the fourth. Work will also be done at a mining extraction site and the MacKay River central processing plant during the turnaround, the company said in a filing July 25.

Syncrude production averaged 359,500 barrels a day in August, up from 262,000 in July, Canadian Oil Sands (COS) said on its website. Canadian Oil Sands is the largest owner in the Syncrude Canada Ltd. venture.
