Olympic Sprinter Demps Will Sign With Patriots, NFL.com Reports
Olympic silver-medal-winning sprinter Jeff Demps will sign a contract with the National Football League’s New England Patriots, NFL.com. reports, citing his agent Nohemy Baltodano.
Demps, 22, medaled in the 400-meter relay at the London Games.
An e-mail seeking comment from Patriots spokesman Stacey James wasn’t immediately returned.
Demps, a running back and sprinter at the University of Florida, wasn’t drafted in April after he decided to focus on track and field.
He drew interest from NFL teams including the New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to the New York Daily News.
A college teammate of Jets backup quarterback Tim Tebow, Demps rushed for 2,470 yards and 23 touchdowns.
