The United States' men's 4 x100-meter relay team from left, Trell Kimmons, Darvis Patton, Justin Gatlin and Jeffrey Demps react after finishing first in their heat during the athletics in the Olympic Stadium at the 2012 Summer Olympics, London, on Aug. 10, 2012.

Olympic silver-medal-winning sprinter Jeff Demps will sign a contract with the National Football League’s New England Patriots, NFL.com. reports, citing his agent Nohemy Baltodano.

Demps, 22, medaled in the 400-meter relay at the London Games.

An e-mail seeking comment from Patriots spokesman Stacey James wasn’t immediately returned.

Demps, a running back and sprinter at the University of Florida, wasn’t drafted in April after he decided to focus on track and field.

He drew interest from NFL teams including the New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to the New York Daily News.

A college teammate of Jets backup quarterback Tim Tebow, Demps rushed for 2,470 yards and 23 touchdowns.
