Kofi Annan Resigns as UN Syria Envoy After Peace Efforts Failed

Kofi Annan, the United Nations special envoy to Syria, today resigned after failing in his peace efforts to end the 17-month crisis.

His resignation was announced in a statement distributed by the UN via e-mail.
