Russia Seeks to Settle Telenor-VimpelCom Dispute, Vedomosti Says

Russian authorities are trying to settle a dispute with Telenor ASA (TEL) by October involving the company’s purchase of a stake in VimpelCom Ltd. (VIP), Vedomosti newspaper reported, citing Igor Artemyev, head of the Federal Anti-Monopoly Service.

Russia will formulate a set of demands for Telenor in two weeks, the newspaper said.

Irina Kashunina, a spokeswoman for Anti-Monopoly Service in Moscow, confirmed the report when contacted by phone. Scott Engebrigtsen, a spokesman for Telenor, said the company is aiming to resolve the matter, according to an e-mailed response to Bloomberg. Bobby Leach, a spokesman for Amsterdam-based VimpelCom, did not immediately reply to an e-mailed request for comment.
