Algerian Wheat Imports Decline 22% in First Half of This Year

Algeria’s wheat imports dropped by almost 22 percent to 3.12 million metric tons in the first half of this year, according to customs data.

Of the total amount imported, 2.35 million tons was soft wheat and the rest durum wheat, according to a customs service document obtained today.

Algeria’s wheat import bill will be reduced by 50 percent this year because of the good harvest which will to be around 5.8 million tons, the head of Algeria’s grain office, Nourdine Kehal, said on June 18.
