Liverpool, Inter Milan to Travel East After Europa League Draw
Five-time European champion Liverpool and another former winner, Inter Milan, face trips to eastern Europe following today’s draw for the third qualifying round of soccer’s Europa League.
Liverpool will play Renova of Macedonia or Gomel of Belarus in the region’s second-tier competition. Inter, which won the elite European Cup for the third time in 2010, faces Hajduk Split of Croatia or Latvia’s Skonto.
Another former European champion, Marseille, faces Eskisehirspor of Turkey or Scottish team St. Johnstone. Last season’s runner-up Athletic Bilbao meets Croatia’s Slaven Koprivnica or Portadown of Northern Ireland.
First-leg matches are scheduled for Aug. 2 with return games on Aug. 9. Winners advance to a playoff round before the group stage.
