U.K. Wind Farm Subsidies Exceed 1 Billion Pounds, Telegraph Says

Wind farm subsidies in the U.K. this year will exceed 1 billion pounds ($1.6 billion) for the first time, the Sunday Telegraph reported, citing estimates by the Renewable Energy Foundation.

Denmark’s Dong Energy S/A, the biggest beneficiary of the program, will earn more than 156 million pounds through its U.K. wind farms, while Sweden’s Vattenfall AB will get 128 million pounds, the newspaper said.

Two of the top 10 companies to receive subsidies are U.K.- based, the Telegraph said. Centrica Plc (CNA) will get 58 million pounds in subsidies, while SSE Plc (SSE) will receive 53 million, the newspaper reported.
