Taiwan Equity Movers: Acer, Asustek Computer, AU Optronics

Shares of the following companies had unusual moves in Taiwan trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the close in Taipei.

The Taiex Index (TWSE) dropped 1.8 percent to 7,130.93, the biggest retreat since June 4.

Acer Inc. (2353) (2353 TT) dropped 1.7 percent to NT$29.80, the lowest close since June 8. Asustek Computer Inc. (2357 TT) retreated 2.1 percent to NT$259.50, the lowest close since Feb. 24. Global personal-computer shipments stalled in the second quarter, a seventh straight period of anemic growth, amid economic weakness in Europe and waning demand for PCs in favor of tablets, according to Gartner Inc.

AU Optronics Corp. (2409) (2409 TT) lost 2.6 percent to NT$11.20. The Taiwanese flat-panel maker, LG Display Co. and Toshiba Corp. agreed to pay $543.5 million to resolve allegations they conspired to fix prices of flat-screen panels used in TVs and computer monitors, said San Francisco attorney Joseph Alioto, co-lead counsel representing screen purchasers that are suing the companies.
