FibreCo Telecommunications Ltd. is spending 5 billion rand ($605 million) building a fiber-optic network linking the coastal cities of Cape Town, East London and Durban with Johannesburg, Business Report said, citing Chief Executive Officer Arif Hussain.

Construction started in April and will result in an open- access 12,000-kilometer (7,460-mile) network, the Johannesburg- based newspaper said.

FibreCo is a joint venture between Cell C (Pty) Ltd., the nation’s third-largest mobile-phone operator, Dimension Data Holdings Plc’s Internet Solutions unit and Convergence Partners (Pty) Ltd., according to information on FibreCo’s website.
