Bill Beaumont was today appointed chairman of England’s Rugby Football Union after the organization’s annual general meeting.
The 60-year-old former England and British & Irish Lions captain succeeds Paul Murphy, who becomes RFU president in succession to Willie Wildash.
“I’m very honored to be appointed chairman of the RFU,” Beaumont said in a statement. “I was fortunate enough to captain my country, and everything since then has been about putting something back into a game that is important to so many people.’’
England will host rugby’s World Cup in 2015.
