Steve Nash Heads to Lakers From Suns, Arizona Republic Reports

Steve Nash is heading to the Los Angeles Lakers after convincing the Phoenix Suns to let him go to their division rival, the Arizona Republic reported.

The two-time National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player will get a three-year contract worth more than $25 million, the newspaper said. The Suns will receive 2013 and 2015 first-round picks, 2013 and 2014 second-round picks and $3.1 million, the report said. No contracts can be formally finished or announced until July 11.

Nash, 38, has spent the past eight years with the Suns. Prior to that he played six seasons with the Dallas Mavericks after two seasons with Phoenix. In 1,152 NBA games, the eight- time All-Star has averaged 14.5 points, 8.6 assists and three rebounds. He averaged 12.5 points and 10.7 assists last season.

The Lakers won the Western Conference Pacific Division last season with a 41-25 record. The Suns were third, eight games back.
