Iran imported 2 million metric tons of wheat to maximize its strategic reserves, the state-run Fars news agency reported, citing an unidentified official.
The commodity was purchased from various countries despite financial restrictions imposed on the Persian Gulf nation, Fars cited the official, who didn’t identify the suppliers or give a timeframe, as saying.
An Iranian delegation visited India in June to discuss wheat imports from the Indian central state of Madhya Pradesh, Fars said. India is seeking to export wheat to Iran at lower prices than Pakistan, according to the report.
