Clinton Pushes Travel Record to 100 Countries With Latvian Visit

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visits her 100th country as the chief U.S. diplomat today when she arrives in the former Soviet republic of Latvia today to meet senior government officials.

Clinton has made 70 trips as secretary, completing 337 days overseas and spending the equivalent of 73 days on her government plane, according to the State Department. The previous most-traveled secretary was Madeleine Albright, who visited 96 countries while in the post, the department said.

Clinton has visited 22 other countries as first lady and a senator from New York, according to Philippe Reines, a longtime Clinton aide and State Department official.
