Manchester City is ready to bid 20 million pounds ($31.4 million) for Liverpool center-back Martin Skrtel as a cheaper alternative to AC Milan’s Thiago Silva, the Daily Mirror reported.

Milan wants 35 million pounds for Silva, prompting City to switch targets, the newspaper said. City may face competition for the 27-year-old Skrtel from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala, the Mirror added.

Guidetti Chase

Newcastle and its English northeast rival Sunderland are both interested in Manchester City’s Swedish striker John Guidetti, who scored 20 goals on loan at Feyenoord last season, according to the Daily Mail.

Ben Arfa Battle

Arsenal is competing with London rival Chelsea to sign Newcastle’s France forward Hatem Ben Arfa, the Mirror reported. Ben Arfa is concerned he may not play regularly at Chelsea so has welcomed interest from the Gunners, the newspaper said.

Swans Target

Swansea City wants to sign PSV Eindhoven midfielder Otman Bakkal as it looks for a replacement for Gylfi Sigurdsson, who it had on loan last season, the Mail reported.
