Canada Employment Insurance Claims Fell a Third Month in April

The number of Canadians receiving jobless benefits fell for a third month in April, Statistics Canada said.

The number of regular beneficiaries declined by 28,640, or by 5.3 percent, to 513,740, the fastest decline since January 2010. The number of recipients dropped by 7 percent in Quebec and by 6.7 percent in Ontario and Alberta.

From the year-ago month, the total number of beneficiaries fell 14.0 percent, or by 83,660, the Ottawa-based agency said today.
