Russia's Poultry Output Seen 12% Higher in May by Rosstat

Russia’s production of poultry and its byproducts increased 12 percent to 282,000 metric tons in May compared with a year earlier, the Federal State Statistics Service said.

Pork production rose about 12 percent to 73,700 tons and beef output increased 0.7 percent to 13,800 tons, the Moscow- based service, known as Rosstat, said today in an e-mailed statement. Production of all meats and byproducts, excluding poultry, gained 7.6 percent to 103,000 tons, it said.

Production of cattle and poultry in so-called live weight, which includes meat, bones and byproducts, increased 8.7 percent to 800,000 tons, Rosstat said. Production of cattle and poultry was 4.2 million tons in January through May, it said.

Cattle numbers increased 1.2 percent to 21.3 million head by the end of May compared with a year earlier, the service said. That number included 9.1 million cows. The hog count rose 3.4 percent to 19 million, while sheep and goats rose 8 percent to 26.5 million, Rosstat said.
