Aston Villa hired Norwich’s Paul Lambert as its manager, the Premier League club said in a statment on its website.
Lambert, 42, replaces Alex McLeish, who was fired May 14 after just one season. Villa finished 16th in the Premier League last season, two points and two places above the three-team relegation zone.
“The board of Aston Villa are delighted to confirm Paul Lambert has been appointed Villa manager,” the one-line club statement read.
Lambert joined Norwich in 2009 when the club was in the third tier of English soccer. He guided the Canaries to two straight promotions and a 12th-place finish in the Premier League last season.
