Hungary May Lower Phone-Call Tax Limit in 2012, Portfolio Says

Hungary may lower the upper limits of a recently approved tax on phone calls in 2012, news website Portfolio reported today, citing amendments submitted by lawmakers.

Under the proposed changes, the maximum monthly charge for individual customers would be 400 forint, compared with the approved 700 forint per subscription, and for companies it would be 1,400 forint versus 2,500 forint per subscription, Portfolio said.

Hungary will introduce the phone-call tax as of the start of July. The lower limits would be in effect only until the end of 2012, according to the website.
