Chilean Stocks: Azul Azul, Besalco, Provida and Socovesa

The following companies had unusual price changes in Chilean trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses, and prices are as of the close in Santiago.

The Ipsa index rose 0.5 percent to 4,221.18. The MSCI Chile index (MXCL) gained 1.1 percent to 2,267.30.

AFP Provida SA (PROVIDA CC), the country’s largest pension funds manager, advanced 2.7 percent to a record 2,701 pesos. Provida’s controller, Spain’s Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria SA, is studying a sale of its pension fund assets in Latin America, the lender said in a filing to Spanish regulators.

Azul Azul SA (AZUL) , owner of the Universidad de Chile soccer team, added 1.9 percent to a record 2,749.2 pesos. Universidad de Chile will play a match today in Santiago against Paraguay’s Libertad to determine who advances to the region’s Libertadores Cup semifinals.

Besalco SA (BESALCO) , Chile’s second-largest construction company, increased 1.9 percent to 909.42 pesos, a second day of gains. Construction activity rose 11 percent in the first quarter from a year earlier, the country’s Construction Chamber said yesterday in an e-mailed statement.

Socovesa SA (SOCOVESA) rose 3 percent to 215 pesos, its third day of gains. Chile’s largest publicly traded home builder expects 12 percent annual growth in sales between 2012 and 2015, Chief Executive Officer Mauricio Varela said at a conference yesterday in Santiago.
