European Leaders to Hold Conference Call Today Before G-8 Summit

European leaders heading to a Group of Eight summit that starts tomorrow outside Washington plan to convene a video conference call today.

Germany’s Angela Merkel, France’s Francois Hollande, Italy’s Mario Monti, and Britain’s David Cameron, along with European Union leaders Herman Van Rompuy and Jose Barroso will talk together at 4:15 p.m. London time.

“The call was agreed about a week ago” following a suggestion from Van Rompuy, Cameron’s spokesman, Steve Field, told reporters in London. It will give the leaders an opportunity “to exchange views ahead of the G-8.”
