Pena Nieto Leads by 20 Percentage Points in Mexico Opinion Poll
Mexico’s presidential front-runner, Enrique Pena Nieto of the Institutional Revolutionary Party, led the latest public-opinion poll taken by Buendia y Laredo with more than a 20 percentage point margin over the next candidate.
Pena Nieto had 41.9 percent support, up from 39.2 percent one week ago, before the first of two televised debates on May 6, according to the survey published today in the Mexican newspaper El Universal. Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador of the Party of the Democratic Revolution had the backing of 20.9 percent of respondents, compared with 20.2 percent a week ago.
Josefina Vazquez Mota of the ruling National Action Party had 19.4 percent, down from 22.1 in the previous survey taken by the Mexico City-based polling company.
The poll of 1,000 people taken May 7-10 had a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
