AL East-Leading Orioles Defeat Rays 4-3 on Johnson’s 2-Run Homer
Nick Johnson hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning to give the American League East-leading Baltimore Orioles a 4-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays in a Major League Baseball contest.
Luke Scott scored as Sean Rodriguez grounded into a double play in the second inning for the Rays (20-13), followed by Adam Jones’s solo homer to even the score at 1-1 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
Elliot Johnson had a run-scoring single and Carlos Pena walked with the bases loaded to score Jose Molina in the fourth inning to give the Rays a 3-1 advantage.
Nick Markakis hit his sixth home run of the season in the sixth inning as the Orioles (21-12) trailed 3-2 before Johnson batted in two runs in the seventh.
Darren O’Day (3-0) threw a perfect seventh inning for the Orioles. Jim Johnson had a perfect ninth for his 10th save.
Joel Peralta (0-2) allowed one run on one hit in 1/3 inning.
