The following companies had unusual price changes in Argentine trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses, and share prices are as of the close in Buenos Aires. The Merval (MERVAL) index fell 1.2 percent to 2,307.04.
Central Puerto SA (CEPU2) (CEPU2 AF) fell 10 percent to 13.50 pesos, its biggest drop since December 2009. The Argentine power generator reported a loss of 6.6 million pesos ($1.5 million), down from a profit of 52.3 million pesos a year earlier, according to a statement posted on the website of the Buenos Aires exchange.
Empresa Distribuidora & Comercializadora Norte SA (EDN) dropped 3.7 percent to 0.79 peso. Ricardo Torres may resign as chairman of Argentina’s largest power distributor, Buenos Aires Economico reported on its website, citing an unnamed person close to the company.
Edenor wouldn’t comment on the report, spokesman Alberto Lippi said by e-mail.
Petrobras Argentina SA (PESA) gained 0.8 percent to 6.14 pesos, its highest price in two weeks. The local unit of Brazil’s state-controlled oil company Petroleo Brasileiro SA reported operating profit of 250 million pesos in the first quarter, up from 80 million pesos a year earlier, according to a statement posted on the website of the Buenos Aires exchange.
